I’m not that technically adept. Anyone else out there have answers to these questions?

I would recommend teaching your daughter about adding and changing oil or keep her away from your mower in the future.

While I was away this summer my daughter ran my ferris 23hp kawasaki 60 out of oil. I now need to replace the engine.
1. how do I remove the electric clutch from the shaft?
2. Can I replace with a 25hp?
3. Can I use either a Kawasaki or Kohler?

I also recommend locating a manual. Look on the Ferris website and search for your model #’s manual. Click on Tech Support>Operators & Parts Manuals. They charge $5-$6 per manual. If that doesn’t work, try eBay and Amazon. There are 17 manuals on eBay. I’d check the Ferris site first to get exactly the right manual by model number.

I don’t have a manual for your mower either and I’m not sure about fluid weight or type. The info may also be on the website.

There are a lot of discs inside of transmissions. Without looking at it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t be able to tell if that’s the problem.

I recommend finishing the trans fluid change first and see if that fixes it.

I’m not a mechanic, just a user, and I have somebody who will look at my machine locally and doesn’t charge me a fortune to do it.

Thanks for reply, I was able to pull of the top cover, everything looked good, There were two disc type size of a nickle with rubber rings around it. Do you thing these could cause this problem. Is there differant type of hyro fluid to use and what weight should I use? I have no manual.

Hi Markos,

First thing I would try is flush and change the transmission fluid. If that doesn’t help, you’ll need a transmission repair or replacement.

Do you have a local lawn mower shop that repairs commercial machines? They would be cheaper than a Ferris dealer. I would also check car transmission shops to see if they will work on a mower transmission and how much they might charge compared to a commercial mower shop.

Ask around and search on eBay for used mowers of the same or similar model as yours that are being sold off in pieces and see if you can get a working transmission out of a wrecked mower or one that is dead for a non-transmission reason.

Sometimes a junk transmission is in perfectly working order and will only cost you $100 bucks from a junk yard or scrap metal recycler.

Good luck, transmission repair can cost an arm and a leg.

I have a older model H-1225 61 inch Ferris, Having transmission problems, It won’t go forwards or backwards. Any help will be greatly appreciated
